Flourishing Through Spirituality

At St. Paul's, we believe spirituality is:

"The spiritual signature of your soul, the soul in others, which is as unique as your fingerprint and the understanding that there is something greater than ourselves."

For our pupils, spirituality means:

"Those moments that make us go 'ow' and 'wow' and help us to grow as people."

We believe spiritual development helps children understand themselves, appreciate others and explore their place in the world. Rooted in our Christian vision of "Life in all its Fullness" (John 10:10), spirituality is woven throughout school life and is not confined to one lesson or one part of the day.

Windows, Mirrors and Doors

Our spirituality curriculum encourages pupils to:

Windows – Explore the experiences, beliefs and perspectives of others.

Mirrors – Reflect on their own thoughts, feelings, beliefs and experiences.

Doors – Take action and make a positive difference in their communities and the wider world.

Wows, Ows and Nows

We recognise that spirituality often develops through special moments in life:

Wow Moments – Experiences of awe, wonder, beauty and joy.

Ow Moments – Experiences of challenge, disappointment, sadness or struggle.

Now Moments – Moments of stillness, reflection, prayer and quiet thought.

As a Church school, we believe these moments help us grow, learn and better understand ourselves, others and God.

The Kintsugi Story

We often use the Japanese art of Kintsugi to help explain spirituality. Kintsugi is the practice of repairing broken pottery with gold, creating something even more beautiful than before.

Just like the repaired pot, the experiences we have in life – our wows, ows and nows – shape us and help us grow. They remind us that challenges, joys and moments of reflection all contribute to who we become.

Spirituality Across School Life

Spiritual development is embedded throughout our curriculum, collective worship, reflection spaces, educational visits, outdoor learning, creative arts and everyday relationships. Children are encouraged to ask big questions, reflect deeply, appreciate beauty, develop empathy and take action to make a positive difference.

Through spirituality, we aim to help every child flourish and experience life in all its fullness.

"Spirituality helps me think about who I am and who I want to become." Joey

"It helps me notice things I wouldn't normally stop and think about." Jimmy

"It makes me think about the world and the people around me." Myla
